I went to a Hagerty function today (who says insurance is boring?). Looked over some of the collision repairs and or restoration currently underway.
Talk about cars you don’t want to rear end. Hope you have a good lawyer! Also, somebody in a Carrera GT came...Goddamn. No photos of that.
Ferrari 328 GTS
Up close, you can see why these weigh so little. Underneath, it is essentially a tube frame type structure. This one was in a bit of a fender bender on the front driver’s side corner.
Ferrari 250 GT
I don’t profess to know much about exotics or old cars, so old exotics are not something I know a ton about. I can’t imagine what a frame off rotisserie restoration costs for that.
Rolls Royce...something
This thing is essentially getting a completely custom body. Brand new, frame up rebuild. The gauge cluster template is kickass. I’d have that on my wall.

Hi Mr. Bee!
Caterham
Crashed, total rebody (done) and passenger side rim needed. They had to order a new body direct from Caterham, but when they received it, it was RHD instead of LHD and they had to send it back. The shop owner chewed out the CEO of Caterham.

I was just as some car museum in Allentown, PA with a very small exhibit on restoration and it was pretty cool. I wanted more info but there was only so much they could cover with the size of the exhibit without boring the hell out of most people.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
No kidding . Now I’m thinking I should start carefully photographing Jeep badges and signage just for that purpose.

T hat is super cool, (and I am somewhat disappointed I haven’t been invited to a Hagerty event!) I nsurance as risk mitigation is one of the most important, basic financial constructs of modern society. Folks think it’s a lame rip off, but so much of what we know today wouldn’t exist without it.

Venture capital is more in the ‘killing websites’ business. They’re way better at it than the insurance industry lol

That 1800 sneaked in behind the fancy cars when no one was looking.

If I had to do it all over again, I’d go into learning body restorations and painting. They’re not just cars, they’re works of art.

Its funny to me that ive never had much interest in classics. Seems to be a quintessential part of car enthusiasm. But I guess Im more into driving said cars and using them for a purpose than anything else. And most classics are garbage to actually drive lol. I can certainly appreciate them from a historical or artistic approach though. But the problem is that due to this a full restored original Ford Mustang is equivalent to a slammed/stanced Nissan 240sx. Like I dont want to own or drive either but would appreciate looking at them. Except at least said Nissan could be fixed into a proper driving vehicle given enough effort and unmodding.

A picture of an Austin-Healey followed by “ Talk about cars you don’t want to rear end.” Ouch , sounds like you’re talking about Le Mans 1955 (too soon!).

I feel the same way. You’re not going to drive on of these through a gravel road, mountain pass or country roads. These stay in garages all the time

I guess if I had “fuck it” money though I would gladly have a collection of classics modified to be fun deathtraps. They would still look exactly like the beautiful classics but would all be powered by hellcat motors or LS swaps if thats way too much go (or simply wont fit). Then these would get driven and be fun to do so. Although said fun would likely come from the adrenaline rush of cheating death. They would definitely not have enough brakes haha

Totally disagree about old cars being trash to drive. I’ve never had more fun than flogging my old MG Midget or Corvair, and when I do have money I’d much rather have something like that MGB GT as my fun car to drive around than some 600 HP car that I cant ever go full throttle in without being dangerous
